Updates – first federal mediation session

  • Updates

We are back with a BIG bargaining update, and we’re so excited to share the details with you. WE ARE SO CLOSE!

First our wins!

CIR officially reached tentative agreements on all non-economic proposals with Stanford. Crucially, the administration finally agreed to provide safe transportation home for all housestaff at all rotation sites. Now we are focused on getting the best economic package and finalizing this contract.

11/9 Federal Mediation: Progress!

To expedite the bargaining process, we entered federal mediation, where a neutral party facilitates sessions. Our first session was last Thursday (11/9), and we gained insight into Stanford’s positions on the following issues:

  • Salaries and Meals: Management has confirmed that they are willing to put more money on the table for salaries and meals. We deserve more than 5%, 5%, and 3%
  • Maintenance of Benefits: There’s room for agreement, as management has indicated a willingness to preserve our existing departmental benefits through a grandfathering process.
  • Keep pushing: Stanford is holding firm against moving forward on Jeopardy Pay, expanding parental leave beyond 6 weeks of full pay, direct funding for childcare, and additional retirement benefits beyond what we already have.

WHAT NEXT?

On 11/17, we have a sidebar discussion with management and the mediators tomorrow, where we will discuss maintenance of departmental benefits at length. Our next mediation date will be after the Thanksgiving holiday (TDB).

We remain united in our commitment to finalizing a strong first contract. We did not concede on any of our positions, and although we will have to compromise on certain issues, we know we can win the exceptional contract we deserve.

In Solidarity,

Your CIR Bargaining Team
